Handcrafted Portfolios
I've designed the 'Collage Portfolios' to inspire! Layer upon layer is built upon to create a piece rich with detail and interest. My hope is that you'll occasionally find a 'surprise' that you didn't notice earlier - and be inspired!
The Collage begins life as a piece of 100% plain cotton to which I then layer tissue paper, threads, sari silks, poetry, images and different materials such as flower petals. This is then painted as a whole piece with a variety of dyes, paints and inks. Final elements are added and a Master is made of the Collage. Prints of the master are then covered with a layer of Silk Organza on top and Bamboo Lining underneath. It is then 'thread painted' with embroidery thread - a process where you paint with a sewing machine needle rather than a brush.
2 pockets of hand painted fabric are added, one having an additional 3rd smaller pocket to hold pens and other items.
A magnetic closure attached to a canvas strap that contains a portion of the image wraps around to close the portfolio.
Each piece is unique and is truly a process of artistic joy!
